Condition

The canvas has been relined. Vertical retouches along the lower part of the left edge of the canvas and vertical retouches along the right edge of the canvas. Some minor filled-in craquelure in the foliage and grass to the left and to the right, some in the trees in the centre and in the farm and some in the figures on the foreground. A small retouch in the centre of the sky and a few small retouches along the upper edge. Otherwise in good condition. This painting is ready to hang.

Catalogue Note

In 1837 M.A. Koekkoek studied in Cleves with bis brother Barend Cornelis Koekkoek, who lived there since 1834. The present lot, executed in 1838, echoes the impressions of the landscape in the surroundings of Cleves.
