Condition
STRUCTURE:
Original canvas. The structure is sound and secure.
SURFACE:
The paint surface may benefit from a light clean and there are traces of a craquelure pattern, notably in the sky.
FRAME:
Held in an ornate painted plaster frame in fair condition.
ULTRAVIOLET:
UV light reveals retouching to frame abrasions on the top, left and ride sides as well as some infilling to craquelure in the sky. There are further spots of retouching to the figure, sheep and to the foreground in the lower right and left corners.
COLOUR COMPARISON:
The colours are generally darker than the illustration suggests.
