- oil on canvas
Condition
STRUCTURE:
Relined.
SURFACE:
The paint surface is sound and secure. The old varnish has deteriorated and appears dirty. Areas of craquelure appear to the centre of the composition and some further areas in the lower right and lower left corners.
UV LIGHT:
Under UV reveals scattered spots of retouching to the background and a few further spots to the woman's head. Also some infilling due to craquelure in the lower left. The varnish prevents further reading and therefore we recommend you receiving an independent restorer's report on this painting.
FRAME:
Contained in an ornate plaster gilt frame with minor chips to the gilt work.
COLOUR COMPARISION:
The work is slightly more subtle and subdued in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests.
