modelled by Jean Desoches, wearing armour and a plumed helmet, the horse leaping over swirling flames and smoke, the pedestal, modelled by Carl Gottlieb Schubert, moulded with trophies on either side and the crowned 'FR' monogram, of Frederick the Great of Prussia, on the front

Catalogue Note

The equestrian figure of Marcus Curtius was modelled by Desoches around 1773; see Beatrix Freifrau von Wolff Metternich/ Manfred Meinz, Die Porzellanmanufaktur Fürstenberg, vol.II, ill.291, for the coloured example in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Braunschweig. The pedestal was modelled by Schubert around 1779 for the equestrian figure of Frederick the Great of Prussia; see S.Ducret, Fürstenberger Porzellan, vol.III, p.161.
