Catalogue Note
Barye first edited this model of a 'demi-sang' horse around 1845. He also edited a model of a 'demi-sang' with its head raised. The present model is first distinguished from the raised head model in Barye's sixth catalogue of 1865. It appears as 'Cheval demi-sang la tête baissée' with its reduction in the same catalogue. A cast of the reduced version appears as lot 318 in this sale.
Casts of the model are in the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
