Sir William Orpen R.A., R.H.A. 1878-1931

Charles Napier Lawrence (1855 - 1927), Lord Lawrence of Kingsgate, 1st Baron, was Chairman of the Commerical Union, London, and the present work was originally commissioned for the boardroom of that company.  Lord Lawrence died before the portrait was completed however, Orpen finished the work and presented it to Commerical Union who subsequently sold it to the family when the company disbanded.
