Gerasimos Steris Greek, 1895-1985

Born in Cephalonia, Steris' early training was at the School of Fine Arts in Athens. While in Greece his work was filled with a sensitivity for colour and line. Compositions of distant island landscapes and human figures dominated his oeuvre. Steris remained in Greece until 1936 when he left for New York. There he spent the rest of his life, changing his name to Guelfo Ammon d'Este and claiming he was of French origin.
