Description
dressed in a flowing robe over a suit of armor holding the shakti lance and pasha noose, trampling demons writhing on a lotus flower emerging from a sea of blood and organs, all set in a landscape with birds and animals dismembering bodies, jewel offerings below, the grey smoke-filled tableau with Dorje Dordan's palace constructed with skulls, severed heads and flayed human skins, his blue attendant below flanked by a monk and an offering goddess, Amitabha above flanked by Padmasambhava, Shadakshari and two Gelukpa lamas

Collection of Mlle Natacha Rambova (1897-1966), n¿e Winifred Kimball Shaughnessy Hudnut, silent film actress, costume and set designer, director, amateur Egyptologist, collector of Egyptian and Asian Art, married matin¿e idol Rudolph Valentino having met on the innovative Art Deco set she designed for the movie Camille, 1921.
Condition
In good to fair condition overall, with no major area of damage but creasing, loses and abrasion throughout including a diagonal crease lower left running through the face of the Llama and down to the jewels at the bottom of the picture. Hardly visible in the catalogue illustration. No major water damage. No restoration.
Mostly detached from what is most likely its original Chinese silk brocade mount of five clawed dragons above chasing flaming pearls, cloud design on the side panels and mountains, seas and auspicious emblems below. Suspension rod and lower roller removed and lost. No inspection of reverse. Framed and glazed.
