Catalogue Note
In August 1931, the André Citroën expedition to Central Asia reached the mountainous region of Hunza, in northern Pakistan. In his 1933 publication Georges Le Fèvre recalls that the ruler, or Mir, entertained his European guests to a lavish spectacle, including a performance by the dancing troupe depicted in the present lot. Their sumptuous head-dresses would have been adorned with tresses of real hair.
