Condition

Original canvas. The painting has been recently cleaned but there are residues of discoloured varnish in places, mostly to the craquelure in the sky. Examination under UV light reveals some old retouching to the craquelure in the bottom of the painting but presence of the fluorescent varnish to the sky prevents more conclusive analysis. Held in a gold painted wooden frame (some losses). Unexamined out of frame.

Catalogue Note

The offered lot depicts the Latgalsky countryside in early springtime, tha artist's favourite time of the year.
"How beautiful, poetic and picturesque everything is, down to the smallest detail. [...] In the green mist of the trees, the pinkish-green groves, white clouds flit accross the pale blue sky and the thin branches barely waver in the warm spring breeze... How charming it all is!"
