Description

  • diameter 24.5cm., 9¾in
after a design by the artist, centred with a gilt hammer, sickle and cog within a black circular cartouche, surrounded by exotic flowers and fruits and brightly coloured leaf border, with manufactory mark dated 1921 and Imperial cypher for Nicholas II obliterated by a painted green oval

Condition

the black paint is a little worn throughout, otherwise in apparently good condition

According to Lydia Andreeva, the hammer and sickle on the prototype for this plate was the first portrayal of the Soviet emblem on porcelain.
