- height: 56cm., 22in.
double-sided, on one side the apex painted with the holy spirit descending from God the Father between two flying angels, the cross bar with the grieving Virgin and St. John and inscribed below the arms of Christ: We bow to Thy Cross O Lord, and glorify Your holy Resurrection, the base with the skull of Adam flanked by soldiers; the reverse finely painted with eleven scenes from Christ's Passion, surmounted at the apex with the Last Supper, on the lower arm of the cross the Instruments of the Passion are depicted
Condition
Crucifixion
The bar on the apex appears to have broken on either side and have been restored. There is a 6.5cm. long crack visible on the right side and areas of overpainting to left side and below where the bars meet the centre piece. There is a burn mark on the right side of the cross bar above Christ's left arm. There is a chip to the wood corner at the end of Christ's arm and further chips along the edges. There is evidence of singeing also under the left horizontal bars.
Festival side
Restoration is visible across the top of the central bar, there is wear to the gilding and some of the inscriptions have been rubbed off.
