centred with the Mother of God Hodigitria, flanked by the Saint Constantine and the martyr Dimitrios each depicted with fine filigree robes and shaded cloisonné enamel halos on a sunray gilt ground, each register flanked by palladium columns and finely painted scrolling foliage, the upper register similarly decorated, centred with a cross within a circular medallion, mounted at the top with a silver-gilt cross, the outer doors finely chased with crosses and scrolling foliage, 84 standard
Condition
This icon is overall in good condition. Minor losses to the enamel on the upper register, most significantly on the leaf section left of the medallion, approximately 0.5cm long, consolidated. A further restored section on the halo of Jesus; the eyes and cheeks of the mother of God restored. The cross finial is slightly loose and would benefit from tightening. The lower central border possibly lacking enamel. The presentation inscription has probably been removed on the underside of the icon.
