Description

  • open: 48.5 by 63cm., 9 1/8 by 24¾in; closed: 48.5 by 31.5cm., 9 1/8 by 12½in
the central panel decorated with Christ seated on a trompe l'oeil throne surmounted by the Deisis, flanked to the left by Our Lady, to the right by Saint John the Baptist, each depicted full length against engine-turned gilt grounds, the robes constructed from seed pearls, the halos enamelled and set with diamonds, each panel with fine geometric enamel borders, 84 and 88 standard, the outer doors and underside with polished wood casing

Condition

The interior of the icon appears to be in really good condition. The outer wood doors are bowed and missing four support pins. The silver is a little tarnished at the edges and would benfit from a professional clean. Unusually, the pearls have not been replaced. This is a very rare icon of exceptional size.
