Description
- Peter Snijers
- A still life with onions, cabbages, carrots and other vegetables in two reed baskets, all on a floor
- signed lower right: P. Snijers
- oil on copper
- 20.2 by 26 cm.
Condition
The actual painting is a bit warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The copper plate is flat and stable. Because of slight copper disease, some small spots have been retouched, e.g. in the lower right and lower left area. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms these retouchings and reveal additional minor strenghtenings in the basket to the right. Otherwise, the painting seems to be in good condition. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame in fair condition. (MW)

Catalogue Note
The Antwerp painter Peter Snijers is known for his landscapes, portraits and still life paintings, of which this work is a fine example and can be compared to a signed work with a similar subject in a private collection in Belgium. Besides being a painter Snijers also was a prolific art collector.
