Description

  • Ansel Adams
  • 'monolith, half dome'
Parmelian print, numbered '675' by the photographer in pencil in the image, signed 'Ansel E. Adams' and titled 'Monolith' by him in pencil in the margin, 1927; accompanied by fragments of the original vellum letterpress wrappers adhered to paper backing from a previous frame (Morgan & Morgan, pl. 8; The Eloquent Light, p. 45; The Early Years, pl. 6; Seeing Straight, p. 44)

Condition

This photograph, with the rich warm tones and deep blacks typical of Parmelian prints, is in generally excellent condition. Upon close examination a slightly rippled is visible overall. There is a small square of what appears to be mounting tissue adhered to the top left margin corner. The bottom left margin corner has a small crease. The accompanying Kraft paper backing with the original wrapper fragments attached is aged and worn, with losses along the edges. The original wrapper fragments have surface soiling and appear to be age-darkened. These fragments are printed 'Ansel Easton Adams' and 'Parmelian Print no.,' and numbered '165' and titled 'Half Dome' in pencil.
