Description
- William Henry Fox Talbot
- The High Street, Oxford, September 1843
Talbotype. Inscribed LA113 in ink on the reverse. Framed.
Provenance
Sotheby's London, June 1985, lot 88.
Literature
Arnold, H.J.P., 1977 pl. 51.
Buckland, G., 1980 p. 176.
Condition
A paler version than some of the known prints of this image, but one in excellent condition. While no doubt some of the pallor is due to fading, it is probable that this was originally a lighter print than others for expressive reasons of the photographer's own choosing. The black surround characteristic of Talbotypes has shown no signs of colour shift at all.
