Description

  • James Anderson
  • Arch with Figure, Rome, 1850s
Lightly coated albumen print mounted on album page. Pencilled inscription in German below the mount, and blindstamped credits 'James Anderson Rome' and 'Libreria Tedesca di Gius. Spithover in Rome'. Framed.

Provenance

Sotheby's London, 25th April 1986, lot 60A.

Condition

The original is stronger in tone and less yellow than the catalogue illustration suggests. The mount is soiled and lightly creased, and one of the creases in the mount runs across the lower left corner of the image and has cracked the emulsion. But the print surface is in excellent condition with only a few superficial scratches in places.
