Condition
This early exhibition print is on double-weight paper with a very slightly glossy surface. The print is essentially in excellent condition. There are two tiny surface scratches in the lower right quadrant of the print which are only visible upon very close examination. There is faint silvering in the dark areas, appropriate for a print of this age. It is mounted to thick Brudno illustration board. There is some minor soiling on the front of the mount.
We have based our dating of this print upon the appearance of the paper and its degree of silvering, as well as the fact that it is mounted to Brudno board which Siskind is known to have used in the 1950s. Brudno board was produced by the Brudno Art Supply Company in Chicago, where Siskind taught at the Institute of Design beginning in 1951. This photograph does not appear to fluoresce when examined under a black light.
