Catalogue Note

Though not directly related, this composition is inspired by Correggio's famous altarpiece of The Madonna della Scodella (Galleria Nazionale, Parma) in which the Madonna is shown scooping up water in a bowl for the Christ Child to drink; a compositional motif which would be copied by numerous Parmese artists, including Girolamo Mazzola Bedoli.
