Description

  • Giovanni Antonio Canal, called Canaletto
  • Venice, a view of the Bacino di San Marco Grand Canal with the Palazzo Ducale
  • oil on canvas, unlined, in an elaborate carved and gilt wood frame

Condition

The canvas is unlined.. There are several pateches on the reverse, some wear there has been restoration, others to avoid potential damage/losses. The paint surface has flaked off in some areas and is under a discoloured varnish. There is a U-shaped tear upper right and another tear of about 3cm in the canal. Inspection under UV light reveals further retouchings. Offered in an elaborate gilt wood frame in good condition.
