"The following condition report has been provided by Henry Gentle, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The panel is oak. It has a repaired central join. There are small splits visible. The paint surface is heavily abraded and augmented by restoration. The wood grain is raised and 'topped' and shows signs of restoration. A filigree of pale shrinkage cracquelure has been reduced by retouching. Original glazes and scumbles have been compromised. There is the remains of an earlier discoloured varnish."
