Description

  • the assumption of the virgin, st. julian and st. benedict below
  • bears old attribution on a label stuck to the back: Giovanni Carlone 1670
  • pen and brown ink and wash, heightened with white, over traces of black chalk, on blue paper. On the verso are studies of legs in black chalk and a study of the crozier in pen and brown ink

Some foxing and some stains but basically good.

Catalogue Note

Although this has been attributed to Diziani in the past, his style is quite distinctive and this seems to be by another hand, a Venetian of the same period.
