Catalogue Note

The date on the drawing accords with Rosa's stylistic development.  Mahoney remarks on the continued influence of Rosa's teacher, Aniello Falcone, on Rosa's chalk style.  A somewhat similar study of a sleeping boy in a cloak and hat is reproduced in M. Mahoney, The Drawings of Salvator Rosa.1
