The subject is taken from Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata, Book II. The attribution was proposed by Nicholas Turner and confirmed by Sandro Bellesi who is the author of a catalogue raisonée of the work of Cesare Dandini. He dates this drawing to the 1630s.
