Overall very good condition. Watercolour very fresh and colours well preserved.

Catalogue Note

Villeret was a recognised painter of interiors, churches and landscapes.  He was a pupil of Julien Gué.  For other Parisian interiors by him, dating from the previous year, see Mario Praz, An Illustrated History of Interior Decoration.1  Others, executed in the years 1848 and 1849, were also included in the 1981 Hazlitt, Gooden & Fox exhibition (nos. 67-70, reproduced).
