Description

  • Francesco Zerilli
  • a pair of sicilian views: the town of syracuse, with the amphitheatre in the foreground, and messina, seen from the hills above the town
  • signed and inscribed in gouache, lower left: F.sco Zerilli dis. e dip. in Palermo nel 1835./F.sco Zerilli dis. dal vero, e dip. in Palermo nel 1835;
    further inscribed in pencil, verso: Siracusa/presa dal Teatro antico; Veduta del Porto, Faró, e Cittá di Messina

  • both gouache with traces of pencil, within illusionistic painted borders

Condition

Both sold framed. Both are in excellent condition. There are some small scuffs and slight abrasion to the very edges of the sheets, but this only affects the borders, rather than the views themselves. The gouache is still very strong and fresh.
