  • Crispijn van de Passe I
  • portrait of a gentleman, seated at a table which bears a compass
  • signed with a monogram and dated in gold ink, lower right: cVP 1633
  • pen and brown and black ink over black chalk on vellum, within two sets of gold framing lines 

Provenance

Count Sparr (?) Ambassador at the English Court at the end of the 18th Century, his mark, verso (L.178c);
Van Parijs, his mark cut out from old mount and attached to reverse of frame (L.2531, no. 618) 

Condition

Framed. The ink is a little faded in parts, but otherwise the drawing is in excellent condition, and the image is still very strong and fresh.
