Danube School circa 1600

Estimate
6,000 - 8,000 GBP
bidding is closed

Description

  • a pair of landscapes, one with a fortified building in the middle distance, the other with a wooded hill rising to the right
  • both pen and brown ink, one with a slight sketch of rocks and trees on the verso

Provenance

Each bear unidentified collectors' marks, verso ('Blome'; not in Lugt)

Condition

Both unframed. One has small losses to the upper corners, from where the sheet was previously laid down. The other (with the sketch on the verso) has some foxing, and a light brown stain to the upper right corner. Also a vertical crease at the centre of the paper, and a very small tear, barely noticeable, to the upper edge. There is some slight surface dirt on both sheets, but overall the condition is good and the ink is still strong and fresh.
