Catalogue Note

This is executed in the tradition of Giulio Clovio, whose miniatures were highly appreciated in the cultivated Roman artistic circle of Alessandro Farnese.  It appears to be the work of a different master, but one who was part of the same Roman tradition and active in the second half of the 16th century.  It is, in fact, extremely close to the work of Girolamo Muziano although nothing by him in this technique is known.
