Catalogue Note
This very attractive drawing is a classic example of an academy study. Although the work we know by Ango is primarily either closely related to Robert or else copies after works of art he saw in Rome, the careful description of the form and the warm colour of the chalk make an attribution to him seem plausible. Alastair Laing has suggested that an attribution to Robert could be considered.
