Description

Designed as a single shamrock leaf, set throughout with old-mine diamonds.

Cf: Ancestral Jewels, Diana Scarisbrick, Andre Deutsch, 1989, page 86 plate 119 for an illustration of two other similar diamond shamrock brooches from the Shrewsbury Tiara, and plate 120 for a photograph of the Countess of Shrewsbury to the twenty-first Earl wearing the Shrewsbury Tiara to a ball in London in 1955, which consisted of a series of diamond shamrocks alternating with floral sprigs.

Catalogue Note

The present lot originally formed part of the Shrewsbury Tiara, made Circa 1810 for Maria Theresa wife to the sixteenth Earl of Shrewsbury.
