Description
Comprising: a pair of gold and enamel cufflinks, by Simpson Benzie, Cowes, each oval link enamelled in blue and applied with an elephant above the motto H.M.S. Hindustan, Benzie, Cowes, enamel imperfect , and a medallion struck with the date: June 22nd 1911, the Holy Cross, and St George and the Dragon, the reverse with the Fleet at anchor and the motto: God be with you.

These cufflinks and medal were included in the sale of the Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor, held by Sotheby's in Geneva on 2nd and 3rd April, 1987, as lot 179.
Catalogue Note
Almost immediately after his investiture at Caernarvon Castle, the seventeen year old Prince of Wales, later to become the Duke of Windsor, became junior midshipman on H.M.S. Hindustan. Joining at Cowes, Isle of Wight, he stayed aboard for three months from early August, 1911.
