Catalogue Note
Copperwhite's recent work has been inspired by an on-going interest in the legacy of the modernist designer and architect, Eileen Gray (1878 - 1976). Within the interior space of the present work, Copperwhite has interwoven elements of Gray's furniture design with references to the contemporary culture in which she works. The emphasis of the title on Radio Waves sets up a further dynamic within the composition between the physical properties of the radio in the centre and the intangible nature of sound and draws attention to a more general investigation into the material and the immaterial.
Born in Limerick, Copperwhite studied at the Limerick School of Art and Design, the N.C.A.D. and the Winchester School of Art. She has exhibited extensively including solo exhibitions at the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin; the Rubicon Gallery, Dublin; the Panorama Gallery, Barcelona and the Limerick City Gallery of Art.
Earlier this year, she was awarded the prestigious AIB art prize.
