Catalogue Note
Francis has become renowned for his use of microscopic and molecular imagery as source material for his abstraction. The monochrome ground of Compression Study punctuated by the rich tones of the dark molecular clusters is typical of his work from the period.
Born in Newtownards, Francis has exhibited extensively internationally including solo exhibitions at galleries such as the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin; City Art Gallery, Manchester; the Mary Boone Gallery, New York; Maureen Paley, London and he was included in the seminal exhibition of Charles Saatchi's collection entitled Sensation at the Royal Academy, London in 1997.
