Catalogue Note
Conceived in 2004, the present work is unique.
Following an on-going interest in the life and work of Samuel Beckett, Delargy spent the late 1990s creating a series of etchings based on Beckett's 1950s short prose piece From an Abandoned Work. Entitled The Beckett Suite, the series was comprised of twenty-four etchings and one of the edition is now in the collection of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. The artist's fascination with the Irish poet reached a new intensity through the three-dimensional form of the present work, a rare treatment in sculpture by the artist (see also lot 29).
