Catalogue Note

Karel Appel moved to Paris in 1950. He continued to take part in exhibitions of the CoBrA group: at the Librairie 73 in 1950 and at the Galerie Pierre in 1951. At this time Appel came to the attention of avant-garde art critic Michel Tapie and the door to international attention was opened for him. In the same year he participated in the IIe Exposition Internationale de l'Art Expérimental in the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Liège. This is the last CoBrA  exhibition (November-December), since it is afterwards decided to disband the group.
