Description

The closed-back mounting decorated throughout with emerald-cut and pear-shaped beryls, some foil-backed, as well as with old-mine and rose-cut diamonds, the center with a table-cut beryl engraved with the scene of the Crucifixion, mounted in silver and gold, the reverse with a covered compartment, later mounted as a brooch, surmounted by a Russian-style Imperial crown similarly decorated with beryls and diamonds, height 6½ inches.  With fitted case stamped Wartski.

Provenance

Property of the late Mrs. Dorothea Allen, Portrait Miniatures, Gold Boxes, Objects of Vertu, Russian Works of Art and Fabergé, Sotheby's Geneva, November 1990, lot 281.

Condition

Tarnishing and discoloration to the metals on the front. Signs of solder repair and manufacture on reverse. The diamonds are of decorative quality and the emeralds are varying colors of green, due to some of them being foil backed. Massive, heavy and in good condition overall.
