Condition

The canvas has been relined. Under ultra violet light, there is an opaque varnish visible and there is retouching to the background area and to his suit. There is a 5 in. vertical line of inpainting on the right side of the figure's chin extending down to his collar. There is another 10 in. vertical fine line of inpainting in the upper right quadrant starting at the upper right border. There is another L shaped area of retouching in the middle of the left border which might correspond with an old repair. The surface is in stable condition.
