Condition

This painting is in lovely and untouched condition. The canvas has never been removed from its original stretcher. The paint layer is stable although lightly cracked throughout. This cracking does not seem to indicate that the paint layer is unstable or that any restoration should be attempted to reduce the cracking, however lining the canvas will eliminate the cracking. It seems unlikely that any cleaning has been carried out or that any retouches have been applied, and while the surface may be slightly dirty, conservation is not necessarily required at this time. It appears that Carrington has scraped or sanded the surface during the painting of this picture and although there are a few little specks which seem to be abraded, these appear to be are intentional. Overall the painting is in perfect condition. (This condition report has been provided courtesy of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.)
