Description

Each brooch of annular design, the first depicting the profile of a woman with a flowering plant, the petals and leaves decorated with pink, white, red and green guilloché enamel respectively, highlighted with circular- and rose-cut diamonds, the back ground depicting a sunset in plique à jour enamel; the second centring on a heron in a river setting, with lily pads at its feet, one embellished with a pearl, within borders of bull rushes, to a plique à jour enamel sunset, with maker's mark for Riker Brothers of Newark.

Condition

Floral brooch: Stamped 18 for 18 carat gold. Some small losses to pink enamel on flower heads, plique à jour enamel to background depicting a sunset, the sky with a significant crack and two further hairline cracks only visible to the reverse. Diamonds bright and lively. Pin strong, catch secure. Heron brooch: Stamped 14K for 14 carat gold. Enamel in good condition. Pearl a medium lustre, with slight rosé overtone, clean skin. Scratched inventory number 108 to reverse. Later suspension loop to reverse. Scratches to polished gold reverse, consistent with age and wear. Traces of dirt and light tarnish to brooch, could benefit from a professional clean. Both pieces in good condition.
