Warrior Red Sandstone India, Madhya Pradesh

A figure of a bearded and moustached warrior in a highly animated pose, his face looking upwards with an alert expression and the legs, though missing, at angles suggesting possible flight. His hair is arranged in tight curls and he wears an elaborate necklace of beads and pendants, a dhoti secured with belts and a looped girdle and a strap crossing his chest and looping over each shoulder, possibly a sling. He is also adorned with a sacred cord (upavita) which takes the form of a cobra associating him with Shiva.
