Condition

The slipcase is slightly soiled (brownish marks) at the corners and margins. There are some spottings on the spine. Otherwise the slipcase is in very good condition. The box is complete.

Catalogue Note

Exécutée en 1934, la Boîte verte est une compilation des notes et des documents qui ont conduit à la réalisation d'une des oeuvres les plus importantes de Duchamp, La mariée mise à nu par ses célibataires, même, également appelée le Grand verre. Refusant tout classement selon un ordre établi il les fait photographier et reproduire fidèlement et les jette pêle-mêle dans une boîte. Pour Duchamp, la relation entre le contenu de cette boîte et le Grand verre met en évidence le processus créatif de ce dernier, à la fois un mariage entre des réactions mentales et visuelles et une accumulation d'idées. Ce procédé accumulatif se retrouve dans la Boîte en valise, musée portatif que Duchamp réalise entre 1935 et 1941.
