The canvas is not lined. Other than 2 dots of retouching to the upper right corner,some scattered very small dots of retouching mostly to the hair of the sitter and to the lower right part of the canvas, and an area of retouching to the lef part of the upper edge, this work is in good condition.

Ce portrait est offert et dédicacé à l'épouse du célèbre critique d'art et écrivain André Salmon, très lié à Pascin. Après avoir réalisé le portrait de celui-ci à son retour des Etats-Unis (fig.1), il entreprend dès 1925 le portrait de sa femme, Jeanne Salmon,  pour lequel il réalise de nombreuses études préparatoires, notamment l'huile sur toile actuellement exposée dans le cadre de l'exposition Pascin organisée par la Fondation Dina Vierny-Musée Maillol (Fondation Dina Vierny-Musée Maillol, Paris, Pascin, le magicien du réel, 2007, p. 177).

Entre les deux fenêtres du salon circulaire, un tableau représentant une femme ntore devant le Sacré Cœur fait allusion au roman d'André Salmon, La Négresse du Sacré Cœur. Cette œuvre aux  tonalités perlées et opalescentes est caractéristique du style dit  « nacré »  qu'expérimente l'artiste dans ses portraits très appréciés du public de l'époque.
