Condition
In good condition. Executed on cream wove paper, attached to a mount at two places near center of work. Minor craquelure in thicker red and yellow pigments near the top and bottom edges of the work. Half inch long area of pigment loss at the right edge. There are several creases and minor paper losses along extreme outter edges and a small pigment loss near the middle of left edge.

Max Ernst was close friends with the artist Bill Copley, whose collection was sold at Sotheby Parke-Bernet on November 5-6, 1979. It is likely that this work's inscription "Happpy New Year to Bill " refers to him.
