Condition
The micromosaic and porphyry are in excellent, near perfect condition. There is a small dent to the gold lid mount at 2 o'clock.

Micromosaics of this type are known to date from the mid 1780s. For a similar example, set into the lid of a Paris box with the date letter for 1786-87, see Sotheby's Geneva, 12 May 1987, lot 327.
