the mounts with charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost, Paris, 1768
oval, the lid, sides and base inset with 19th century Japanese lacquer panels decorated in gold with exotic birds, pine trees and foliage, the gold mounts stamped and chased with zigzag patterns on a grosgrain ground, the scroll thumpiece clustered with flowers, tortoiseshell lining, the interior of the lid in black lacquer decorated in 18th century lacquer with a paeony spray

Condition
The rim and base mounts slightly undulating. The base lacquer with craquelure. Some gold lacking at right of thumbpiece where the mount must have been removed; one lid pin lacking.
