Description

  • width 8.8cm, 3 1/2 in
maker's mark GW in a rectangle, with two cartwheels, perhaps for Mainz, German, circa 1800



rectangular with cut corners, the lid with a central panel painted en plein with Venus teasing Cupid, the ground striped in gold and pale blue enamel within chevron ornament in black enamel and sablé, white sprig borders

Condition

There are two areas of loss to white enamel border on bottom rims left side and back, both approx. 7mm long and both down to the gold. Minor scratches and nicks. Otherwise in generally good condition.
