Catalogue Note

Although of Dutch origin, van Pitloo is considered the principal artist and founder of the School of Posillipo, named after the bay to the north of the city of Naples. He modernized the concept of rendering nature and spread his style amongst followers who adopted his sense of synthesizing the values of light and colour.
