The present gouache relates in composition to another work by Hackert in the Goethe Museum, Düsseldorf (see C. Nordhoff and H. Reimer, Jakob Philipp Hackert 1737-1807, Verzeichnis seiner Werke, 1994, p. 61, cat. no. 145, reproduced pl. 67). 

We are grateful to Dr. Claudia Nordhoff, who, based on photographs, confirmed the attribution of this picture to Hackert.
